Emel Mathlouthi released her first album for an American label (Partisan), Ensen (“Human”) earlier this year. Ensen, the follow up to her debut Kelmti Horra (“My Word is Free”), is a sonically rich amalgamation of international sounds and connections. The Tunisian protest singer is now based in New York and had worked with producers across seven countries including Valgeir Sigurðsson (Sigur Rós) and Johannes Berglund (The Knife) to record the album.
