José González performed an entirely solo set at Lincoln Center for the American Songbook series. His was the penultimate show in the Appel Room for this year’s series before it moves upwards into the Penthouse. With his sonorous voice and his deft fingers, González imparted rich tones from his acoustic guitar for the nearly 90-minute set. In addition to his own solo work, he performed Junip’s “Line of Fire”, “Open Book”, “Crosses” and, of course, his two much-loved covers ofMassive Attack’s “Teardrops” and The Knife’s “Heartbeats,” which he reserved for the finale. The sold out crowd was quick on their feet with applause as he finished.
