The band Savages are set to release their new album Adore Life on January 22nd. They recently dropped the video for the second single from that album, “Adore”, online and you can stream that below. But first, I must catch up on unpublished photos. Last year the band had a residency in NYC with nine shows across a few venues. I caught them at Baby’s All Right on January 19th and hadn’t posted any of the photos till now for whatever reason. Enjoy some more pics below the jump and plan to see them when they return to the States (dates at the bottom).
In 2010 or 2011, a friend of mine recommended the band Philly-area band The Kominas to me. For whatever reason I didn’t get to see them till August 22nd 2015 at their show at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg. The put on a great performance and their energy was tremendous. Their performance was in the middle of DJ sets from DJ Haram, DJ Rekha (who put together the event) and Bobby Friction, whose birthday was (around) the same night. At the end of their set The Kominas wished Friction a happy birthday with the help of the crowd. Check out photos of their show after the jump.
From their press release, “Algiers, whose unique blend of post-punk sonics and gospel bloodletting has been called “spiritual, political and confrontational” (Rolling Stone), are bringing their “truly incendiary” (The Quietus) live show to NYC on June 9th (Mercury Lounge) and 10th (Baby’s All Right) to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut on Matador Records, out June 2nd.” Though I haven’t yet heard their album, I decided last minute to go and photograph their show at Baby’s for use HERE! And they were a cool band to catch as lead singer Frank James Fischer really gives it his all.
Hilary Hughes over on Village Voice recently spoke with the band and she gives them a more apt description. “Algiers is a Southern Gothic tornado charged by the swirling winds of punk, electronic, metal, gospel, and blues. They leave nary a stone unturned on the sociopolitical front as far as their lyrics go, and they pair these thought-provoking lines with a sound that’s devastatingly current — and appropriately overwhelming.” (I had half expected Fischer to physically tear apart Baby’s.)

The anonymous man behind Wolf Colony puts out some pretty catchy tunes. He released his debut album Unmasked on March 2nd with a launch party at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. Check out some of my photos below (and after the jump) plus listen to some of his tunes on his Soundcloud page.
